Investigative Journalist
Overview
Have a significant impact filling the gaps of how conservative political news is reported in Southwest Washington. Our online journalist is responsible for investigating and getting to the core of political news and current affairs that deeply concerns Clark County.
Present information in a fair, balanced and accurate way as you offer analysis of events and issues which affect the community. This requires understanding the area and its influences, and how that affects the perceptions of the people who live here. Opinion pieces will also be part of your role.
In addition to reporting, you may be asked to edit, produce, anchor or co-host online video program(s). Typical work activities include:
- Generate ideas for stories and follow leads from: city, county, government resources and the public
- Research and collate evidence and information to support a story using relevant information sources (internet, archives, databases, public records, etc.)
- Identify potential interviewees, prepare interview questions and conduct both live and recorded interviews
- Exercise the editorial voice of our site while finding the best angles to approach the story
- Capture companion story photos
- Prepare and present material for pre-recorded or live streaming pieces
- Identify when additional resources are optimal for location shoots, including sound and camera operators
- Develop and maintain local contacts
- Present self in a professional manner
- Helpful but not required — know portable digital video (DV) cameras and audio recording equipment to capture material, and using appropriate editing software to complete and produce digital stories
- Other duties as assigned

Editorial Columnist
Overview
Have a significant impact sharing a conservative political viewpoint with Southwest Washington. Our online columnist will be an accomplished writer and researcher, will have strong interview skills and a good analytical grasp of political issues and current affairs in the region. This writer is motivated, organized and resilient and will project the editorial voice of the website COUV.COM.
It requires understanding the area and its influences, and how that affects the perceptions of the people who live in Southwest Washington.
In addition to writing editorials, you may be asked to cover other stories, edit, produce, anchor or co-host an online video or audio programs.
Typical work activities include:
- Research and collate evidence and information to support a story using relevant information sources (internet, archives, databases, public records, etc.)
- Based on the findings form an analysis and write compelling stories
- Interview newsmakers and weave a narrative of challenges faced by the community
- Offer analysis of local events and issues
- Exercise the editorial voice of our site
- Secure interviews with newsmakers, briefing them, preparing interview questions and conducting both live and recorded interviews
- Develop and maintain local contacts
- Present self in a professional manner
- Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications. AP Style Book knowledge required. Experience with WordPress, Drupal a plus. Experience using portable digital video (DV) cameras and audio recording equipment and editing helpful, but not required.

Content Coordinator and Copyeditor
Overview
The Content Coordinator and Copyeditor supports the development and delivery of web content, supports the overall expansion of the company’s websites, and awareness of its products in the marketplace, and does some reporting.
Content Support
Using Associated Press Stylebook the coordinator will create content, copyedit, and publish video, audio, photo, and text to the website(s). Collaborate with staff on articles and posts to ensure consistency in tone and style and support quality of the website. Oversee internal stylebooks for video, audio, and text. Assist the General Manager in content development and managing the editorial calendar.
- Write short articles, assist in creating scripts for video and audio projects
- Spearhead comment moderation on website and in social media
- Oversee and manage website amenities such as polls
- Edit photos, and may have opportunities to edit audio and video files
- Edit and contribute to marketing materials including press releases, sales materials, white papers
- Assist in pre-production for COUV.COM programs and projects
- Assist General Manager with outside contributors and coordinating external submissions
An understanding of WordPress required. Understanding of Drupal a plus.
Marketing Duties
Develop social media strategy and tactics to drive increased visibility. Monitor audience and recommend optimal responses, deliver on opportunities to advance the brand.
Administer content tagging and other systems for optimal SEO, and assist in the planning and implementation of SEO projects.
Review and assess new technology as it develops and make recommendations for best practices.
Communicate and Knowledge Share
The Digital Content Coordinator possesses excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and propels opportunities for self and the team to expand and share knowledge base.
Completes other duties as assigned.
